Nyack Community Ambulance Corps Bureau of Training
Providing the tools and training necessary to render competent and compassionate care to the community we serve, by:
Community Outreach Program
Public Access Defibrillation
The Nyack Community Ambulance Corps would be glad to assist local businesses with the training in the use and implementation of defibrillators for their place of business. As part of our community outreach program, we would like to see public access defibrillation on the rise in our community. Studies have concluded that early access to defibrillation in the event of a cardiac arrest greatly increases the chances of survival. Restaurants, shops, theatres, bars and other businesses are encouraged to pursue this vital opportunity. If this is an opportunity that you would like to take advantage of, please leave a message for our training officer by calling (845) 358-2424 or e-mail our training officer.
CPR Training
Frequently, the Nyack Ambulance Corps holds CPR classes throughout the year. Our community outreach program strives to train all the members of our community in the much needed skill of being able to render CPR in the event of a cardiac arrest. This is a skill that is learned by attending a one day class taught by one of our American Heart Association certified instructors. We teach both refresher and original courses. Please note that in order to stay current you must recertify every one or two years depending on your original certification. All interested in pursuing a CPR certification are encouraged to leave a message for our training officer by calling (845) 358-2424 or e-mail our training officer.
SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions)
The SADD group at the Nyack High School sponsors a annual simulated drunk driving crash that takes place on the grounds of the high school. The simulated crash serves as a reminder to high school students of the tragic impact that can result from driving while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. This is an important lesson for our young people. This also serves as a great training exierience for Nyack Ambulance members and other first responders.
Pictured on the left during Nyack High School's SADD drill are Youth Corps member Naim B. "playing" as a victim, Youth Corps member Bryan B. "acting" as a "drunk driver" Clarkstown Police Officer, EMT Michael Baer, EMT Cathy R. and Captain Paul Morer, transporting one of the "victims" to the awaiting helicopter and EMT Baer and EMT Cathy R. extricating a "victim" involved in the simulated crash.
Special thanks to Orangetown Police Officer Hugh Johnson for taking these pictures.
